Fun Indoor Play Places for Kids in Houston (Including Several FREE Spots!)

Houston weather can be unpredictable—between scorching summers, rainy days, and those occasional chilly weeks, sometimes you just need a place where your kids can run, climb, and play indoors. As a toddler mom, I know this to be true in my current life season! Thankfully, Houston has some fantastic indoor play spots for toddlers and young kids, including several that are completely free!

If you're a parent looking for easy, air-conditioned fun for your little ones, here are some of our favorite indoor play places around Houston, Cypress, and Katy.

Free Indoor Playgrounds in Houston

One of Houston’s best-kept parenting secrets is that several local churches offer beautiful indoor playgrounds that are open to the community during certain hours. These are wonderful options for playdates or simply letting toddlers burn off energy.

Second City Indoor Playground

Located inside the Woodway campus of Second Baptist Church, Second City is a thoughtfully designed indoor playground just for little ones.

This space is ideal for toddlers and preschoolers, with soft play equipment and imaginative themed areas designed for kids 48 inches and under. Best of all, it’s completely free for families (you just need to reserve a playtime slot).

Why parents love it:

  • Clean and safe toddler-focused play equipment
  • Air-conditioned (a huge win in Houston summers)
  • Completely free with reservation
  • Perfect for babies through preschool age

If you’re looking for a place where little ones can climb, explore, and socialize, this is one of Houston’s best options.

Houston's First Baptist Church Indoor Playground

Another favorite free play spot is inside Houston's First Baptist Church near the 610 Loop and I-10.

Their indoor playground is a large multi-level play structure that’s popular with local families. It’s designed for children to climb, crawl, and slide while parents relax nearby.

Highlights:

  • Free indoor play area
  • Large climbing structure
  • Great for toddlers through elementary age
  • Easy meet-up spot for playdates

Many Houston parents use this space as a go-to activity during extreme heat or rainy days.

Kingsland Baptist Church Indoor Playground

Families on the west side of Houston love the indoor playground at Kingsland Baptist Church.

This play space is colorful, clean, and perfect for younger kids, making it especially great for toddlers and preschoolers.

Why it’s a great stop:

  • Free indoor playground
  • Safe and padded equipment
  • Family-friendly environment
  • Great option for Katy families

It’s another fantastic spot to keep in your rotation when outdoor parks aren’t an option.

Paid Indoor Play Places in Houston, Cypress, & Katy

If you’re looking for something a little more immersive, Houston also has several fantastic indoor play spaces and mini museums designed specifically for young kids.

Mapletown

Mapletown is a charming indoor play village designed for babies, toddlers, and young children. This imaginative play space includes climbing structures, slides, ball pits, and pretend-play stations.

Kids can explore different areas while parents relax nearby.

Why families love it:

  • Best for ages infant through about 7
  • Interactive pretend-play areas
  • Slides, rock walls, and ball pits
  • Great birthday party spot

It’s cozy, engaging, and perfect for a slower-paced indoor outing.

Play Street Museum (Multiple Houston Locations)

Play Street Museum is one of the most beloved indoor play concepts for young kids. Designed like a miniature town, these play museums allow children to explore imaginative environments like grocery stores, doctor’s offices, cafes, and more. Kids can role-play real-life activities while developing creativity and independence.

There are several locations around the Houston area, including:

These locations typically cost around $14–$16 per child and have different timeframes, each location now requiring a timed reservation- be sure to check out their website prior to heading over as walk-in availability may be limited!

Why parents love Play Street Museum:

  • Perfect for toddlers and kids under 8
  • Creative imaginative play environments
  • Smaller, calmer spaces compared to big play parks
  • Great for playdates and birthdays

Little Explorers Lab (Hands-On Learning Play Space)

Another unique spot for toddlers in Houston is Little Explorers Lab, a Montessori-inspired indoor learning and play center in the Cy-Fair area. Instead of traditional playground equipment, this space focuses on hands-on educational exploration, where children can experiment with sensory activities, practical life skills like pouring or sewing, and interactive learning stations about plants, animals, and cultures. The environment is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving through play.

It’s a great option for toddlers and young kids who enjoy calmer, curiosity-driven play rather than large climbing structures. Families can drop in during open play hours, take part in themed classes like art, cooking, or science, or attend special events throughout the year.

I took my own kids there for the first time today and we had a BLAST!
